IDF News – Spring 2023
Membership Benefits
The IDF is the only established and recognised doctors' organisation dedicated to supporting any doctor who undertakes private practice in the UK. All our members can take advantage of the various benefits of membership detailed below. Some of our members are connected to the IDF as their designated body (connected members) and others connect to another designated body (non-connected members). Connected members are the only ones able to use the IDF's revalidation services, although IDF appraisal is open to all members. There are separate application processes for each type of membership – a more detailed application for those applying for connected membership and a more streamlined application for those wishing to become non-connected members.
We offer members a personal page on the IDF website to help them build their profile and increase awareness of their practice. We also offer an active educational and social programme, with a diverse range of valuable networking opportunities with other doctors and corporate members. We send out e-newsletters which keep members updated on current events. Members signed up to the process also benefit from having access to the three stage Independent Sector Complaints Adjudication Services (ISCAS) procedure for patient complaints. Finally, we have an Executive Board that lobbies government organisations, insurance companies and regulatory authorities.
Appraisal & Revalidation
Our Appraisal & Revalidation systems are
CHKS Recognised and have been found to be comprehensive, robust and designed to facilitate the process of medical appraisal and revalidation.
IDF Events and Networking
We run a wide range of educational and social events throughout the year, including webinars, symposia, a study weekend, networking events, dinners and cultural activities. We are also introducing ‘meet the new members’ evenings to network and share ideas.
Online Mandatory Training
IDF is working in partnership with Blue Stream Academy to offer members a 20% discount for one year unlimited module usage.
Psychiatric Support Network
IDF has set up the Psychiatric Support Network for IDF members who may feel they have a mental health issue. A number of our psychiatrists have agreed to provide clinical appointments to members, kindly subsidised by our Corporate Member Pharmacierge.
CQC
Martha Walker, our independent CQC adviser alongside our Regulation Committee, has been developing the relationship with the CQC over several years, offering registration and compliance kits to help members remain compliant.
Advocacy
We meet regularly with RCGP, PHIN, Healthcode and the GMC to discuss areas of concern and mutual interest.
Support
We are here to support our members. We are holding introduction to private practice seminars for both GP and Consultants.
