The Medical Defence Union

The MDU is the UK's leading medical defence organisation. Founded in 1885, our mission is to guide, support and defend medical professionals throughout their careers.

We are a mutual, not-for-profit organisation, and provide professional and corporate indemnity for clinical negligence claims to our thousands of members, including to dental professionals through our specialist dental division, the Dental Defence Union.

We're led and staffed by medical professionals, so we're ideally placed to understand and help with all the different medico-legal matters our members face – from disciplinary and regulatory investigations to coroners' inquests, criminal investigations into members’ professional practice and patient complaints.
