IDF Lunch Webinar - Harbor London - Recognising the signs of mental distress and mental illness and how to effectively triage patients with Sahhira Kamal

Event Details

We are delighted to invite you to our Lunch Webinar with Harbor London. Shahira Kamal, will be presenting on Recognising the signs of mental distress and mental illness and how to effectively triage patients.

General Practitioners (GPs) play a crucial role in early identification and management of mental health issues, as they are often the first point of contact for patients in distress. This talk will focus on how to recognize and assess the signs of mental distress and various mental illnesses. Attendees will learn how to effectively differentiate between symptoms of distress and more severe psychiatric conditions, allowing for appropriate and timely interventions.

We will cover common red flags for mental health issues, how to approach sensitive discussions with patients, and the importance of a patient-centered, non-judgmental approach.

Emphasis will be placed on cases that you have seen and how you did triage or could have triaged differently.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify Key Signs of Mental Distress: Recognize the common signs and symptoms of mental distress and mental health difficulties.
  2. Develop Effective Triage Skills: Learn how to triage patients with mental health concerns based on severity and urgency.
  3. Communicate Effectively with Patients: Improve skills in approaching difficult conversations regarding mental health, ensuring empathetic, patient-centered care.
  4. Recognize When to Refer: Understand when and how to refer patients to mental health specialists or services.
  5. Create Supportive Care Plans: Learn to create holistic care plans, including follow-up strategies and access to community resources.

This talk is designed to empower GPs with both the knowledge and the confidence to address mental health concerns effectively within their practice.
