Overview of Revalidation Service

Revalidation is the process that ensures licensed doctors in the UK remain up to date and fit to practice. Through revalidation, doctors demonstrate their commitment to high professional standards and continuous improvement in patient care. 

For patients, revalidation offers reassurance that their doctors are thoroughly assessed by both their designated body and the General Medical Council (GMC). Patients also play a role in this process by providing feedback, which helps doctors to understand and enhance their patient interactions. 

As part of revalidation, doctors must complete an annual whole-practice appraisal, where they reflect on their work, review feedback, and set goals for development. This ongoing process strengthens trust, maintains high standards, and promotes patient safety in healthcare.

The Independent Doctors Federation is proud to be a designated body for revalidation, which means we are officially recognised to support our doctors in meeting the standards set by the General Medical Council (GMC).
