Medico-Legal Seminar: How to establish a successful medico-legal practice

We are delighted to announce that we will be holding a medico-legal focused seminar in the Council Room at the Medical Society of London on the afternoon of Friday 29th November. 

A comprehensive afternoon hosted by Mr Nick Morris, Consultant Gynaecologist and Obstetrician and medico-legal Consultant, and speaker Mr David Eccles, a highly-successful retired Senior Barrister for Medical Negligence. David will discuss what lawyers need from a report, and how payment for the legal profession is based with the implications of CFA rules. Building relationships with lawyers and legal platforms. We will also have guest speakers, Ron Miller and Linda Morrell.

David Eccles

David is a recently retired barrister who practiced in Manchester. He was educated at Wilmslow Grammar School and Clare College Cambridge. For the last 30 years of his career he specialised in Clinical Negligence and Personal Injury work, especially the former. He was junior counsel for the West Pennine Health Authority to the Shipman Inquiry and undertook cases both for the Claimant and the Defendant including many of real complexity and high value. He was appointed a Recorder in 1999 both in the County Court and the Crown Court and he was the judge in some Clinical Negligence cases.

 Ron Miller 

Ron Miller became a Consultant Urological Surgeon in 1986 when he was appointed to the Institute of Urology. He has more than 25 years of medico-legal experience receiving instruction from major UK and Irish medico-legal litigators as well as the NHS Litigation Authority, MDU, MPS and GMC. He is a trained mediator and has lectured to colleagues and layers on medico-legal issues. In 2012 he set up his medico-legal company Urology Chambers Limited which has gone from strength to strength. He has received prizes from the legal press for his own contributions and for his company ULCH which he runs with Linda Morrell. He has mentored and advised colleagues on medico-legal practice and issues.

Linda Morrell 

 Linda Morrell qualified as a nurse in 1987.  She was Surgical Nurse Manager at The Whittington NHS Trust before being appointed as Directorate Manager for Urology and Nephrology at University College Hospital where she was responsible for the operational management of this busy tertiary referral centre which included the Institute of Urology.  Her role encompassed the investigation and reporting of complaints. She joined Urology Chambers Limited in 2012. Her extensive experience of dealing with litigation cases ensures the smooth running of our service.

The seminar will begin at 1pm with lunch consisting of deli style sandwiches served with tea and coffee, a coffee break halfway through and will aim to finish by 6:30pm, after which guests will be invited for a networking session
